A scanner is a tech gadget that converts any scanned images, printed text, hand writing, or an object into a digital image. There are many types of scanners available, like desktop scanner, where the document is fed on a glass window for scanning. Hand held scanners are operated by hands. They have undergone an evolution from text scanning to 3D scanners used mainly for industrial design, reverse engineering, test and measurements, orthotics, gaming and other applications. Mechanical scanners, designed for large-format documents are used in place of a size-limited desktop scanner. Modern scanners primarily use a charge-coupled device (CCD) or a Contact Image Sensor (CIS), as the image sensor. Older drum scanners used a photomultiplier tube as the image sensor. A rotary scanner, used for rapid document scanning, uses a CCD array instead of a photomultiplier. Other types of scanner includes planetary scanner that takes photographs of books and documents and 3D scanners that displays 3D models of objects. Digital camera scanner is another type of tech gadget based on the concept of reprographic cameras. Digital camera scanners became popular by offering rich resolutions and a host of new features such as anti-shake. Although it does have its disadvantages like distortions, reflections, shadows, low contrast etc. Yet they are preferred because of their portability, speed, and the ability of producing digitized image of thick documents without damaging the book spine. Earlier scanners existed in the form of telephotography and fax input devices, which consisted of a rotating drum with a single photo detector at a standard speed of 60 to 120 rpm. Their method of operating involves sending a linear analog AM signal through standard telephone voice lines to receptors, which synchronously print the relative intensity on a special paper. This system lasted till the mid-1990s. Color photos were sent as three individual RGB filtered image consecutively, this applied only for special events, and for the transmission costs were very high. A high speed document scanner has several advantages:- 1)Scanned documents provide multiple access to users for collusion. 2)No more lost documents. 3)Diminish the need for additional staff to file, instead maintain hard copy Files. 4)Easy conversion of files to pdf format for sharing and e-mailing. 5)No need for physical storage cabinets. 6)Access to secure files for categorical users. 7)A simple filing system can be created that will be easy for the whole office to follow. 8)Document feeders are generally bigger than those found on copiers or all purpose scanners or advanced tech gadgets. A complete orientation of technical articles ranging from software to infringe of hardwares is discussed in http://www.knowurpc.org .In the website all the articles are written in a very lucid manner so that a novice tech interested person or a highly tech educated people can grasp the concept of the articles. All the articles are technically sound and nicely organized. |
