Social drinking is quite widespread in the modern world. It is kind of a tradition to include a little beer or wine during a meal in a number of houses and restaurants. Celebrating special days like weddings and other red-letter days is rarely carried out with no alcoholic beverages. It's also commonplace to meet up with friends or acquaintances for a drink or two after a working day. That is considered to be a way to keep in touch with them. Expensive alcoholic drinks are also present at business negotiations and lunches. Though it's not an alcohol abuse, it still provides a basis for interference of alcohol in our lives. Alcohol addicts do not realize the fact that alcohol does harm not only to them, but at the same time it brings pain to their families. The rising amount of cases of innocent deaths, domestic violence, suicides is a consequence of alcohol deep penetration into our life. You should take into account that alcohol is a form of drug, and alcohol dependence is a form of drug abuse. The withdrawal from this abuse is as difficult as from drugs application. Antabuse (also known as disulfiram) was the first approved medication used to treat alcoholic dependence. Its action is based on evoking negative reaction in case a person continues drinking while using antabuse. It interferes with the metabolic process of the alcohol conversion and thus causes hangover symptoms that are ten times greater that usually. A person that drinks while using antabuse confronts such unpleasant symptoms as sweating, thirst, chest pain, tachycardia, vertigo, blurred vision and others. Amongst more serious symptoms can be unconsciousness, myocardial infarction, respiratory depression and even death. As you can see, antabuse is a very strong drug, so it can be given only to a person who understands how it works and is completely serious about quitting drinking. Antabuse contra-indicated to people with a history of heart disease, psychosis or an allergy to antabuse. Expectant mothers are also prohibited to take antabuse. So it is an excellent idea to visit a physician before starting with alcoholism curing process. Remember that antabuse is effective only in case of long-term use. In case a person takes just one tablet, he can simply start drinking in several days again. Excellent news is that European researches showed that the longer people take antabuse, the more effective it is, as they develop a habit of not drinking. So your health is in your hands, as is your future.
