The handphone is an electronic gadget used for mobile telephony and test messaging over a cellular network of specially designed base stations called cell sites. Handphones are different from cordless phones that merely offer a telephony service. Handphones have turned into the most efficacious form of short- and long-distance communication. Along with the standard voice function, current handphones can support plenty of extra mobile services and accessories, such as text messaging, e-mail, access to the Web, phone gaming, Bluetooth, camera with video recorder and MMS option for sending and receiving photographs and video, MP3 player, radio and GPS. Handphones are deployed for a range of purposes, such as to keep in contact with friends and family members, do business with partners and have access to a phone in an emergency. Some people have two or more handphones: one is deployed for business issues and another for personal use. Multiple handphones and multiple SIM cards are also widely used to get benefit from different calling options. For example, one plan could provide inexpensive local phone calls, another can be for cheap long-distance, and yet another for cheap international calls or inexpensive roaming. Mobile phones range from basic phones to advanced phones, including musicphones and cameraphones. There are also smartphones that work as small-sized portable computers. The world's biggest individual mobile operator is China Mobile with over 500 million mobile phone subscribers. The world's biggest mobile operator group by clients is UK based Vodafone. There are more than 600 mobile operators and providers around the world. Over 50 mobile operators have over 10 mln subscribers each, and over 150 mobile operators have leastwise one mln clients by the end of 2008. The chief handphone brands are Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Apple iPhone, Blackberry, LG, Samsung etc. Due to the ever growing competition on the telecom market, clients can choose from a full choice of tariff options to meet their budget and purposes. Contract mobile phone deals and Pay-as-you-go are renowned networking solutions providing cost effective tariff plans.
