Many ladies live at a busy pace these days. Many work full time. They take their children to day care and after-school activities. And a lot of ladies have the added responsibility of being the household "car care manager." While car care, ordinarily, has been regarded as "men's responsibility", research conducted by the Automobile Care Council shows that women represent 60 percent of automobile service customers in North America, and women spend more than $300 billion every year on automobile maintenance, repairs and used automobiles. To help keep ladies "on the go," women are advised to visit their local auto service during April Auto Care Month to make certain that their auto follows the safety requirements. Mechanics will point out items requiring service that can help an automobile run better, last longer, maintain its value and render optimal safety and security. Here are safety and maintenance tips that help a vehicle run at its best prior to the spring and summer travel seasons. Tyre Tips Blowouts: If your tyre sustains a blowout while you are driving, do not slam on the brakes. Doing so can make the motor vehicle swerve in the direction of the blowout. Instead, slowly apply the brakes to recover control and gradually guide the car to a safe place away from the road. Air pressure: To avoid under-inflation, it is strictly recommended to have your tyres' air pressure checked, leastways, once a month and before every long journey. Tyres must be checked when they are cold - that is, when they have run no more than one mile (1.6 km). Under-inflation commonly leads to tyre blowouts. Tyres lose air through a process known as permeation. Changes in outside temperature can affect the rate at which a tyre loses air. Normally, a tyre loses from one to two pounds of pressure a month, and even more when the weather is warm. Never reduce air pressure in hot tyres. It is common for pressures to build up as a result of driving. As the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) stated, every time the outside temperature decreases by 10 degrees Fahrenheit, the air pressure in your tyres decreases from one to two pounds per square inch. By following the tips above you will be secure on the road.
