FASHION is an art that reflects life. Every now and then we hear the names of Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Versace etc. There fashion designers have a great impact on our hair styles, how we dress up, the way we put on makeup and even behave. Every season fashion designers determine our choices of clothing. There are several very important events in the fashion calendar which are called fashion weeks. Fashion weeks are organized every season for fashion designers to display their latest collections in runway shows and for buyers to take a look at the latest fashions. Most importantly, they exhibit the industry what is in and what is out for the season. The largest fashion weeks are arranged in the fashion capitals, such as Milan, London, New York and Paris where luxury clothes (differently called haute couture) are shown. Haute Couture is a French word combination for expensive and fashionable clothes designed for ladies. Couture denotes dressmaking, sewing, or needlework and haute denotes sophisticated. Haute couture clothes are made for a particular client from high-quality, expensive fabrics and sewn by hand usually using time-consuming techniques. Therefore, couture garments are luxurious and exclusive. Depending on the haute couture fashion house and the garment, the cost of a couture item runs from $10, 000 for a blouse to $40, 000 and usually beyond that sum. The price includes payments for the service, work, originality of a unique design and splendid materials of the finest quality. Moreover, every client will receive a garment to fit them ideally. It takes approximately 100-150 hours to make a handmade haute couture suit and up to 1000 hours for an adorned evening dress with thousands of beads sewn by hand. A couture house like Chanel, for example, will have approximately 150 regular customers purchasing couture garments, and a couture house like Dior will make approximately 20 luxury wedding dresses per year. Apart from clothes, well-known couture houses make chic luxurious accessories, including hats, buttons, belts, jewellery, footwear, handbags. Those who can afford luxury garments are happy to pay for exclusivity and the privacy offered by the system. |
