Ronald William "Ron" Howard is an American film director and an actor. Howard first became famous as an actor playing in the 1960s and 1970s movies. Since he quit his career as an actor, he has directed many movies, including the scandalous blockbuster The Da Vinci Code, and its loud sequel, Angels & Demons. The movie is based on the novel written by Dan Brown, the author of The Da Vinci Code that made the mankind split into two groups - its supporters and opponents, including the Church. Though The Da Vinci Code was banned in plenty of countries, a lot of people all over the world have viewed the movie. Angels & Demons re-starts to display the rivalry between the Catholic Church and science vividly depicted in The Da Vinci Code. The plot of the film Angels & Demons features the desire of Harvard University historian and iconologist Robert Langdon to uncover the mysteries of a secret society called the Illuminati. The Vatican faces a great threat when the main four cardinals to substitute the recently deceased Pontiff are abducted by members of the Illuminati that adhere to scientific truth. The Church is told that each cardinal will be put to death one per hour starting at 8 pm, culminating with an antimatter bomb that is to explode underneath St Peter's Cathedral at midnight ruining the sacred city. To face down the terrifying threat, the Church calls upon the services of iconologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) who knows a lot about the secret society. He has to start the investigation straight away, rushing to find the abducted cardinals by deciphering clues, symbols and other historical facts. Robert Langton accompanied by physicist Vittoria tries to reveal the mysterious death of the Pope and save the humankind. The images of Rome in the movie are splendid and breathtaking. The viewer has a chance to walk around Rome and see the most significant historical and cultural masterpieces together with the characters. The movie does well to engage interest through its explanations of historical facts and the inside organisation of the Vatican. The plot keeps the viewer involved and interested until the very end of the movie. The story unfolds with unexpected twists and turns that leave the watcher excited. |
